Snow sheep

Snow sheep are an endemic species of mountain sheep that live exclusively in the Russian Federation!

There are 7 official subspecies of snow sheep:
Kamchatka snow sheep
Koryak snow sheep
Kolyma snow sheep
Okhotsk snow sheep
Yakut snow sheep
Chukotka snow sheep
Putorana snow sheep
Only the first 5 subspecies are officially permitted for hunting as game species.

International mountain hunting clubs subdivide the following categories for inclusion in trophy lists and ratings:

Kamchatka snow sheep
Koryak snow sheep
Kolyma snow sheep
Okhotsk snow sheep
Yakut snow sheep
Koryak snow sheep harvested in Chukotka (essentially the same Koryak sheep, from the same Koryak Highlands - but territorially located within the borders of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug
Kharaulakh snow sheep - essentially a very small population of the Yakut subspecies, living on the northernmost spurs of the Verkhoyansk Range, these spurs are called the Kharaulakh Range. This subspecies of sheep was recognized by hunting clubs as a separate (very controversially, but still) just a couple of years ago.
